The Upper World by Femi Fadugba

After suffering a knock to the head, 15-year-old Esso experiences a chilling vision: that night he will witness the violent deaths of everyone he knows. He writes off the out-of-body experience as a strange dream – until a series of frightening coincidences prove that the vision is just hours away from coming true.

There is only one person who can help him rewrite the future.

The trouble is, she hasn’t been born yet…

  1. Femi Fadugba has effortlessly fused life in Peckham with the science of time travel. I was immediately invested in the characters and particularly enjoyed Esso’s humour. As someone who loves time travel stories, I was invested in the explanation of the science. Finally, reading a story full of science and philosophy based in Peckham, South London, brought me a lot of joy. I think this book will inspire a lot of young people from groups currently under-represented to realise that they too can become scientists or anyone they want to be.
